Diesel engines
run hotter than turbines and have soot. Ammonia is supplied
by vaporizing urea solutions in the ductwork of the diesel
exhaust. Catalyst are subject to vibrations and must withstand
higher temperatures than those for boilers or combined cycle
turbines. Stack NOx control relies on simpler controls and
analyzers which require regular calibration and service.

Lower and lower NOx emission limits …
SCR systems on diesel engines most be
tolerant of soot accumulation and the contaminants from
engine lubricants. Intermittent use for peak power generation
requires rapid start-up and tolerance to frequent thermal
cycling of the catalyst.

optimum catalyst performance and urea delivery

Recent tightening of NOx and ammonia emission limits require
SCR systems to operate at optimum performance to meet emission
levels in the stack. CO catalysts are often used in front of
SCR catalysts. They generate NO2 which requires more urea than
NO. |
